unachievable summer TBR // Top Ten Tuesday

I swear no matter how many books I read, my TBR pile never shrinks. It just continues to grow and grow until it becomes multiple piles and, oh no, now it's a sea of books and I can't see the floor anymore.

But that's not what this post is about. Not really. Although my TBR "pile" does somewhat resemble a small ocean, today I am discussing just ten (well, eleven) books that I'm hoping to read this summer.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I tend to gravitate towards contemporaries in the summer months, however, I've since realised that I have A LOT of fantasies to catch up on. So it looks like some of those contemporaries may have to take a backseat.

Nevertheless, I'm excited to read each and every one of the following books so if that's any indication, then it's going to be a great summer!

1. Beautiful Broken Things by Sarah Barnard

Beautiful Broken Things has been on my radar since it was announced as one of Zoella's book club picks in 2016. I haven't had a chance to read it yet but I'm hoping to pick it up sometime over the next few months in preparation for the release of the upcoming companion novel, Fierce Fragile Hearts!

2. The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen

I always enjoy Sarah Dessen's books so when I saw this one at a secondhand shop (in the old cover style like the ones I already owned!) I just had to pick it up. Now I need to read it.

3. When We Collided by Emery Lord

When We Collided was a bargain-buy from a book outlet store a year or so ago, and although I haven't read an Emery Lord novel before, the synopsis sounded intriguing. As a contemporary, if I don't read it this summer, it'll most likely end up sitting on my shelves for another whole year!

4. Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

If you're a regular visitor to my blog, no doubt you'll have noticed Children of Blood and Bone on multiple of my TBRs over the past few months. I actually started reading it in August and got halfway through but wasn't feeling it so put it down. As one of the hottest YA novels of the year and being someone who dislikes DNFing books, I really feel like I ought to give it a second chance!

5. The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee

I LOVED The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue and the sequel novella The Gentleman's Guide to Getting Lucky so I was ecstatic to receive Lady's Guide in The YA Chronicles October box. This is one I want to read ASAP!

6. Whisper of the Tide by Sarah Tolcser

As I mentioned last week in my list of Series I Need To Finish, I've been trying super hard to keep up to date with sequels this year. So I'd really like to continue this streak and finish the Song of the Current duology over the summer!

7. Undying by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

Again, it would be great if I could cross this series off the list as well!

8. Catching Fire and Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

Real talk: The Hunger Games is probably my favourite trilogy of all time. It's well-written and fast-paced and equal parts thrilling and heart-breaking. I reread the first book a few months ago so it's high time to reread these two as well!

9. Reign the Earth by A. C. Gaughen

Reign the Earth is a diverse fantasy that I feel hasn't received the hype it probably deserves. With the sequel, Imprison the Sky, set for publication in January, I'd really like to get to this one soon!

10. The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

An absolute classic of the fantasy genre (yet one that I have yet to read), The Name of the Wind is the February pick for the book club that I participate in. In fact, it's actually the inspiration behind The Name of the Book's name!

So, um, this list is actually wildly unachievable. But who doesn't love setting themselves lofty goals that are completely unattainable and then being absolutely devastated when things don't go as planned?

No? Just me?
